off to a late start, South paw Pitcher Gordon McHendry had fallen asleep in the dugout. Diamondbacks Players tried to explain to the umpire that he never stays up this late but the ump just wasn't having it. Finally he was woken and the game could start.



The Home Town Durham Diamondbacks took the Field, Unfortunately the slow start continued, Letting the Ugly Ducklings score 7 runs and facing 12 batters. In the bottom half of their inning The Dbacks would only score three runs from a two run shot by Shortstop Pat Shirbon that wrapped around the foul poll and a solo bomb by outfielder James Davis.

Top of the second The Dbacks would show some great defence forcing the Ducks to go 1-2-3, and opening the door for a Diamondbacks early comeback. The Diamondbacks would put up five and take a slim 8-7 lead.

The Third is where it got interesting, With 2 outs up came third baseman Miguel Desilets. With a sharp hit to the shortstop Miggs took off out of the box(some say ALMOST as fast as Don Cole) causing an over throw, Miguel continued to second then third.... why stop there? with the ball in the third baseman's glove Miguel continued home, with a late throw home Miguel was in safely giving The Dbacks their only run of the inning. Now this took me back to JULY 17th when Yoga Dave danced around the bases with such grace.





An uneventful 4th, The Dbacks would go into the bottom of the last inning stuck nine. This was the Diamondbacks of old, feeling confident that a walk off could/should/would happen. with Roder, Savaidis, Saunders and Shirbon all getting on to start the inning things were looking bright. 1st base Jamie Arsenault came to the plate with the bases loaded took an ugly tomahawk hack over the left field fence just foul, the very next pitch also went over but this time fair... Grand Slam and just like that the Diamondbacks were down 4 with no outs. The Diamondbacks would score 4 runs, Saunders driving in the tying run, with the winning run on third and a base open at first The Ducks would intentionally walk Shirbon to load the bases and face Arsenault.

2 outs and a second grand slam of the inning on his mind Arsenault took one for the team and hit a opposite field blooper over the first baseman's head and in came the winning run. The loosing streak was finally over.
